Wracked with angst over the fate of our beloved and horribly misgoverned Republic, the DiploMad returns to do battle on the world wide web, swearing death to political correctness, and pulling no punches.
As we come up on the 50th anniversary of the Cuban Missile Crisis, we see newly declassified German intelligence documents reporting that Fi...
Wouldn't a rational and mature person have responded, "Check this credit card if you think I can't afford your measly purse."Seems like she was operating in Al Sharpton mode.
a coincidence, that's all; just a coincidence that this hits the news before the release of a movie that she is in. Nope, she wouldn't be trying to drum up free publicity, now would she?
You are just too suspicious and cynical. NO Hollywood celebrity would ever do that.
Goodness, now the purse will probably be marked up to $48,000 due to its notoriety. I think it's really funny (hilarious but also sad) that Oprah thinks that she didn't get to see the purse because she is "black". Does she really think that lily-white redneck retired me would be able to waltz in there in my retirement uniform (because I don't have to impress anybody) of ratty comfy jeans, T-shirt, and flip flops and be given the purse? Yeah, that ain't gonna happen. Plus I would spend that sort of coin for a damn purse sometime long after hell froze over. If she thinks that the lily-white redneck me didn't ever have to deal with rude clerks when I walked into an establishment dressed in my work uniform of blue jeans, sweat, boots, hat, safety glasses, tape measures and tools hanging from belt loops, well, she better think again.
Switzerland.....must be someplace in LA, Lower Alabama?
It's not here, whitewall...I'm in LA (Pensacola, to be precise), and there is no Switzerland here. Matter of fact, we don't seem to have racial issues in these parts, probably because it's generally conservative. The most problems arise in Blue areas of the nation, where leftist ideology has rotted the minds of the people and degraded the culture.skh.pcola
Degraded the culture is right. I was just listening to the hits of the 1950s on xm radio. Clean stuff, actual love songs and none of this....well you know.
I apologize before even starting. Why? I have nothing good to say about either that fat negro calling herself Oprah nor her leader, Obama. All I see from both of these entertainers a screeching entitlement mentality. Honestly, if there should ever be another presidential election, I would hope that this past eight years would be remembered like a purulent festering boil on the buttocks of this nations conscience. Let America say, like Israel, "NEVER AGAIN!" Never again a liberal progressive in any elected office. Never again a RINO sitting in any branch of Congress.I have a dream...where have I heard those words before? I have a dream...that someday soon anyone throwing down the 'race card' would promptly have it forcefully shoved up their left nostril, and we could start judging ourselves on our own performance.
I know what you mean. Axiom: A Conservative dreams of a world without threat. A Liberal dreams of a world without opposition.
How do we know this incident even occurred? Has the store told their side of it? Or is this, as a poster above notes, just another sleazy PR trick to hype yet another stupid summer blockbuster bomb that no one will go to see, because citizens have had it with Hollywood? She's full of it. That's my read. If that's racist, then so be it. Paul Vincent Zecchino
Forget where I saw it, but the store owner said it was a misunderstanding with an Italian clerk somewhat lacking in English skills. Easy enough to imagine, especially if somewho were overly sensitive to racial slights, real or imagined.I have to wonder what Oprah was wearing. Slobbing about tourist-like in flip-flops, shorts, and a t-shirt or looking like she might afford a $38K purse? Sure it's racist/classist/sexist/whatever to judge people by the way they are dressed, but we all do.
I, too, am so freaking tired of the forever race card these folks drag us through. Give me Charles Payne, Herman Cain, Ben Carson, Deneen Borelli, Star Parker, Mia Love and many Conservative blacks who made it without playing the 'forever victim'.Oprah needs to get over herself.V
BRAVO! Yes, very well stated! The last I heard, or paid any attention to, this woman had a total worth of over ONE BILLION dollars! Why would she give a flying fig to what anyone would ever say to her again? Totally insecure is one of the issues that comes to mind - she needs approval, regardless of her past success or present wealth. Approval from the mailman, her maid, everyone who crosses her path during the day. It's going to be impossible for anyone to take her race card away from her, it's the one foundational thing that always feeds her "poor me" fix. I bet her therapist makes a good living! LOL
Oprah missed an opportunity. If it were me, I would have asked to speak to the owner of the store, called my banker, and bought the store before leaving with the handbag. If the business could not be purchased, then the building.Make s splash, not throw a stinkbomb.
Or she could use her money to buy property in Detroit, and move there to live to make a statement.
Reply of the week!
Wahhhhhhhhh.it's always about her, isn't? I've been over her O ness for a long long time now. One can have money but can't use it to buy class.
I'm quite sure Oprah would be furious if the unwashed masses of middle America dared to approach her in public and ask for an autograph.Obviously, Oprah also expects to be able to play the "Don't you know who I am?" card when out in public, no matter what country. (someone should point out to Oprah that while she's widely recognized in America, and probably the UK, it probably doesn't hold true in Switzerland)So, anyway, it probably wasn't racism, Oprah, dear. It was probably someone who understands there aren't that many people in the world who can afford 38K for a purse.Gad, what a buffoon.-Blake
Blake, that's exactly what I thought it was too - someone who was trying to save the customer a few (thousand) bucks; only to get a black eye for being helpful (Zimmerman should have educated the clerk that it doesn't pay to be helpful to your neighbors; somebody's gonna try to hang you)Just yesterday, I went to the department store (oh, how I hate shopping malls!) to buy some more face cream that I've been using for years. I approached the clerk, told her what I wanted, and then she said, "you know this other product is the same thing, only you get more for your money." Instead of being like Oprah and thinking the clerk thought less of me, I realized that she was helping me to save some money. That's how "normal" people react to helpful salesclerks. But, see my comment above about Oprah just trying to get free publicity for her upcoming movie. That's all this really is - a publicity stunt by a has-been celebrity (she really burned her loyal audience of middle-class women when she support the great Obama over Hillary - crash and burn baby, crash and burn Oprah's career!)
There aren't that may people around stupid enough to pay $38,000 for a purse. She reminds me of the old Reverend Ike whom I once saw in LA in the 1960s. His whole religion was built around how much money he had and how people should give him more.
Reverend Ike had some redeeming qualities. His exhortation, "the best way to help poor people is not to be one" is a timeless classic, and I say that as someone from what would nowadays be referred to a disadvantaged background.BTW, does nobody remember that just a few years ago Oprah claimed to be a victim of discrimination because a Hermes store in Paris wouldn't let her in after closing time? Is that one down the memory hole? Finally, the store clerk's version of the story is here, in the last bastion of investigative journalism, the Daily Mail online:'Oprah's a liar': Sales assistant in Swiss racist handbag row denies telling TV host that she could not view item because she couldn't afford it
