Agree with Obama: ISIS is not THE Threat

OK, OK. Long time readers of this little blog know that I do not, will not watch President Obama give a speech. I especially refuse to watch those horrid annual affairs known as the State of the Union (SOTU) Speech. What was initially supposed to be a periodic report to Congress on what had been done and what the administration thought needed doing, has turned into something almost as unwatchable as the Oscars or the Golden Globes. It is a bloated, corny affair which often has little to any connection with reality. I can't stand the orchestrated applause lines, the pointing out of this or that "celebrity" in the audience, and the phony little stories supposedly by little people who met and told The Great One at the podium some heartbreaking tale of woe and need which only a new and huge government program can satisfy.

On top of all that, we have Obama. Who labelled him a great speaker? Who is the miscreant who perpetrated that fraud? I want him identified and forced to listen to an IPod-full of Obama's SOARING rhetoric . . . "We are the change we have been waiting for." Stop. Please.

So when The Great One gives a speech, I let it pass, and later read the text; at least then, I don't have to put up with the mannerisms, quirks, the chuckles, the finger and the nose in the air. So, The One delivered himself of his (Praise the Lord!) last SOTU harangue. In keeping, therefore, with my strict rule, I did not listen to Obama, and instead started watching a very nice Colombian TV series, Pablo Escobar: El Patron del Mal. I love Colombia and find it endlessly fascinating. In my view, most Americans do not appreciate how bravely a lot of Colombians--many of whom died--fought the brutal drug lords in the 1970s and 80s, and saved Colombia from going the failed state route. Let's not forget, that it was our and Europe's bizarre drug laws and insatiable appetite for cocaine that caused the murderous rampage in Colombia and elsewhere. Anyhow, it's a great country and I hope more people visit it.

Oops! Got off subject. Yes, the SOTU. I read it (here) and found it, well, pretty blah. My attention was only partly engaged by one little bit. Well, aside from the fact that The One refuses to accept any blame for the collapse of Western influence around the world. It was this bit on ISIL/ISIS,
Both al Qaeda and now ISIL pose a direct threat to our people, because in today's world, even a handful of terrorists who place no value on human life, including their own, can do a lot of damage. They use the Internet to poison the minds of individuals inside our country; they undermine our allies.
But as we focus on destroying ISIL, over-the-top claims that this is World War III just play into their hands. Masses of fighters on the back of pickup trucks and twisted souls plotting in apartments or garages pose an enormous danger to civilians and must be stopped. But they do not threaten our national existence. That's the story ISIL wants to tell; that's the kind of propaganda they use to recruit. We don't need to build them up to show that we're serious, nor do we need to push away vital allies in this fight by echoing the lie that ISIL is representative of one of the world's largest religions. We just need to call them what they are — killers and fanatics who have to be rooted out, hunted down, and destroyed.
Now, our Great One has said this before. Well, he also has told us that Al Qaeda was on the run and that ISIL was the JV team, but we'll let that pass for now. Here he does what he does best: create a straw man. When dealing with ISIS, who is making "over-the-top claims that this is World War III"? Nobody I know. Nobody I read.

These little SOTU paragraphs show, yet again, how our President refuses to deal with reality. He can't do it. His Progressive blinders and minders won't let him. ISIS can't destroy the United States; can't destroy Canada; can't destroy Australia; can't destroy the UK; can't destroy France; it can't even destroy Belgium. Nope. The war we are supposed to be fighting is not against ISIS or AQ or Boko or any other loopy organization. The enemy is Islam aided by the progressive delusions that have allowed Islam to set up shop in our countries. Progressive immigration and welfare laws issue passports, housing, spending money, health care, etc., to the very people sworn to convert, enslave, or kill us all. Muslims, well-treated in the West, repay us by murdering us in a coffee shop in Sydney; in restaurants in Paris; on the streets of London, Boston, Ottawa; and at a Christmas party in remote little-known San Bernardino. Progressive delusions have allowed ISIS and other Islamic gangster groupings to recruit fighters in the West. Progressive delusions require the political class and other bien pensants to lecture us after each and every Muslim atrocity on the need to disarm ourselves and not to engage in a "backlash." In other words, beg mercy from those who vow never to grant it.

I agree with Obama: ISIS is not THE enemy. Mr. President, you need to take it one step further: Islam is THE enemy--Islam aided by the sort of Progressive madness that you so amply represent.

    Fully agree Mr. D.

Sadly, after reading about US sailors being "captured" by Iran yesterday, and how Nikki Haley bashed Trump instead of Obama in her reply to the SOTU, I'm glad I have access to beer (as I pour my third one; and it's not even noon yet where I live!).

  3. Yes, there are problems with Islam, and a lot of the Muslims the [mal]administration proposes to bring in are a threat. Yet we do have Muslims who are peaceful and productive citizens and residents. I have a sneaky suspicion that a lot of the informants who have passed information to the FBI and local police about possible threats are themselves Muslim.

BTW, I am by no means going soft on Islam. It's predation masquerading as piety, and I will not glorify with the name "Abrahamic" a book that presents Miriam the daughter of Amram as the same person as Mary the Mother of Jesus (yes, I know the Islamic defense over Surah 19:28; but I've just read Surah 3:35ff. and am convinced that Muhammad himself failed to account for the 14 centuries between the two holy women), denies Jesus died on the cross, and in which Muhammad swears by the heavenly bodies. Certainly we cannot afford to import the radical ferment now raging across the entire Islamic world. But I still believe in being fair-minded towards individuals.

  5. Even Islam would not present an existential threat to the West if we refused to grovel before it, and kept it as far away as possible.

What really threatens the existence of the nation is the man who gave that speech.

    3. Yes indeed. If our secular overlords applied the same standard to all religions, Islam in the west would be in the dustbin of history in no-time.
But secular liberals are bullies. And bullies pick on the people who they *know* wont defend themselves with reprisals. In the religious sphere, that's Christians. Bullies do *not* pick on the people who *will* strike back, hence the lack of muhammed depictions and the nattering on of placating Islam, while making 'art exhibits' of urine immersed crucifixes.

    4. I'm still waiting for an award-winning musical called "The Koran," with all the reverence for which the South Park duo is renowned....Waiting......
(It's as though respect is only being given to the philosophy whose adherents will murder you for disrespect. And yet progressive Islam-defenders think they're for freedom and liberality. They need to think a bit harder about what freedom and liberalism really mean.)

    5. C T,
South Park had an early season episode that depicted mohammed without any controversy 'super best friends' or something.
After the cartoon controversy, they very deliberately did an episode where they depicted muhammed and it was censored by comedy central, the network airing South Park (and the old episode was subsequently removed as well). There was a big brouhaha about it at the time. I suspect that nobody can beat the entire industry on their own. They have definitely gone a bit light on Islam, but with the networks censoring material related to Islam, there's not much point either. Note, even the 'Book of Mormon' and their calling scientology a giant con didn't merit that kind of response. The networks are much more afraid of Islam than they are of any and all other religions, and for good reason.
It's not the networks' job to protect freedom of speech, that responsibility lies with the government and the people. Our government and people have decided that appeasement on this subject is acceptable for the medium term.

America gets the politicians it deserves. There is no other reason as to why Obama is in office.

  6. Islam and "Progressives" (in Europe "Socialists") and the PRC and the DPRK and the RF and Iran (am I double counting? very well I am double counting; I am large; I contain multitudes) and Cuba and Communists and drug-resistant bacteria and eco-terrorists (someday soon with the doomsday bug!) and a number of lesser villains.

And we can't disengage from any of these fights without dying. Nobody wants war forever, but it beats death forever.

  7. The problem of radical Islam is the problem of Islam itself.

Many are afraid that if Islam is the problem there can be no solution. That terrifies them. So they do all they can to avoid engaging with the evidence that Islam is the problem.

  8. We are not at war with Al Qaeda or ISIS. They are just players for a large team called Islam.

  9. There is a point at which I wince at declaring Islam "the enemy". As a Christian, I don't like Islam. I am well aware that Islam justifies violence in a way that I cannot find in Christian Scripture or doctrine. To me, Islamic ethics are scarcely worthy of the name. Also, I agree wholeheartedly that Muslims' behavior creates more Islamophobes than all the so-called 'hate and fear' sites put together.

But we have Muslims in the USA who are good citizens. There are even Muslims who condemn terrorist attacks on the USA without mentioning "Palestine" and the JOOOOOOOZ at all. There are Muslims who are grateful to live here and who have served our country well in all areas.

I do not have a "Coexist" bumper sticker, and think it downright silly (and note that the peaceniks and gender-benders will be the first ones on which the Islamic scimitar falls). But we do have the Free Exercise Clause.

  10. Kepha needs to learn and keep repeating the old line - The difference between a "radical" muslim and a "moderate" muslim is the moderate muslim will wait for the radical to kill you before stealing your stuff and enslaving your women. And I've started spending time in the ME in 1983, and have worked in every country there except Iran Iraq, and Afganistan.
