Lost in Translation, Right Might Not Mean Right

High Water and Low Blows

Well, so far, we have survived Hurricane Florence.

We got a lot of rain, some wind, downed trees, but, at least in my corner of Durham, we kept our power and water services. In fact, my automatic lawn sprinklers came on during the height of the downpour--first world country problems, I guess. Had to keep a wary and worried eye, however, on the normally little creek that marks the boundary between my property and my neighbor's. This usually placid and bucolic runnel, did its best to impersonate a raging river. About eight to ten feet wide, with banks about three to four feet high, or so, it filled to the brim and for several hours threatened to spill over. In its fury, it washed away a neat little foot bridge. How will I ever be able to visit my neighbor again? The horror! This morning it has resumed its placid, post Xanax ways, but now my trust is broken. Gone. I have seen its Mr. Hyde face.

The house in Wilmington? Well, I don't think the news will be as good. My neighbor there reports that our garage has flooded--which, probably, means that so has the basement--and the place is without power. Lots of downed trees, and the highway there is still impassable. Whatever losses I might have suffered, however, pale into nothingness compared to what other folks in this beautiful state have. Gaia is a killer. I am sure that had we stayed with the Paris Climate Accord none of this would have happened.

Since we have had power here, I have been able to spend hours watching and reading the news. Generally an awful exercise and waste of time. The one thing I learned, yet again, is that our prog "friends" will stoop to anything to destroy a rival. The last-minute stunt they have pulled with Judge Kavanaugh is beyond reprehensible, probably even worse than what they did to Clarence Thomas. They have dug up some ultra-prog professor of psychology from, of course, northern California to allege that some time, somewhere, perhaps 35 years ago or so, in a place not fully established, at a party or gathering in an uncertain place on an uncertain date with an uncertain number of attendees, Kavanaugh, then either 16 or 17 years old, proved himself an archetypical, white patriarchal straight male and groped or tried to grope the then also 16 or 17 year old future professor.

How can one defend himself against this type of accusation? Pretty damn hard in our new era where the accused must prove beyond a shadow of a doubt--and without insulting or offending his accuser--that perhaps, maybe, the accuser has it wrong. This is beyond outrageous. No matter what happens, and I don't believe the accuser's story from what I have heard so far, Kavanaugh's life will be permanently altered; he will become the punchline for every prog comedian and politician, will be harassed on the street, and will constantly have to worry about the safety and security of his wife and daughters. Talk about the politics of personal destruction.

A little update: One of my sons is betting that the Dems have more women accusers lined up. They will "Roy Moore" him, he says, with a barrage of accusations. Gloria Allred call your office!

Just before the hurricane, a friend warned me about snakes getting flushed out by the rising waters. Naive me. I thought he meant on my property in North Carolina. Turns out the snakes are a bit further north . . . in Washington DC.

  1. Mitch McConnell has shown that he knows how to use the Democrats' tactics against them. I suspect that the Democrats will need to be extra sharp should they ever try to nominate a true leftist to the court again.

    1. The left is inching us ever closer to the start of a hot CivWar 2. I suspect that if the Kavanaugh stunt fails to stop his confirmation, which I believe will be the case, their next step might be even worse. I know there are tons of Patriots fully sick of this crap who are just itching to step off the porch...

  3. Ah yes, the Kavanaugh character assassination. How do you suppose his girls feel? Of the basketball team he coaches? The English language does not have words vile enough to describe what the Democrats have done.

As for that bridge you lost -- surely there is a federal program to restore swept-away bridges? Department of Transportation grant? Or maybe Department of Commerce? Or describe it as a Peace Corps bridge (à la Kerry's daughter) and get a State Department grant.

    1. F,
Here in the American South, we have traditionally used the insult word 'trash' when describing people this low. To us, it says enough without saying it all which avoids seeming 'trashy' like Democrats.

  4. We in the Piedmont fared much better than our friends East; best on the Wilmington property.

  6. But if he is in fact confirmed to sit on the Supreme Court (which I hope he is), how do you think this will affect any rulings on "sexual harassment" claims or other suits brought by the far left? These people need to think ahead just a little bit.

  8. I dunno. There have been plenty of scotus nominees with squeaky clean records and no allegations at all against them. Gorsuch was confirmed not even long ago under the same hostile microscope. Sometimes the enemy scores a tactical victory on the way to a strategic defeat.

Feinstein poker-faced the committee for months, and it's quite apparent that nobody in the GOP knew anything about the cards she was holding.

Frankly, she pointed out that a good chunk of the GOP is quite incompetent.

  9. Gorsuch was replacing a conservative justice, so it was not such a big deal.

This one is replacing Kennedy that was the swing vote.

I don't understand what Trump is doing on the nomination, he's fighting it tooth and nail, but in a more civilized way than is his norm. This is different than other GOP Presidents have done before.

Trump's not slinging mud as he usually does. The timing of the release of the FISA Stuff was not by accident. Trump is a master at media timing.

I hope what he does works. My gut feeling is Trump is arranging it, so he can pull the "have you no decency" on the Democrats, and show the dirty tricks the Dems are pulling. Hmm, that could explain why declassify the FISA Warrant. All part of a campaign to show the Dems do dirty tricks. Establish a narrative.

    1. It might even be feasible to push Kavanaugh through after the elections, if it's in the GOP's favor *and* there some reliable doubt about the claim. I don't see it happening right now except if the GOP is certain it's going to lose the senate and they have no option to keep the scotus appointment.

Some people very angry at Brett this week, I hope.

  10. I'm with your son. I'm guessing come friday women will pop out of the wood work. The whole point of this woman not having any information except the allegation is to have nothing that could be disproved by the Republicans.

  11. The underlying problem here is that the Lefties over the last few decades have turned the Supreme Court into the final all-powerful legislature. Asserting in Roe vs Wade that the Constitution provides a right to abortion (despite the clear language of the 10th Amendment) is simply the most extreme example. If the Supreme Court was limited to the role prescribed for it in the Constitution, then there would not be Leftie pressure to stack the court with activists instead of jurists.

The long-term consequences of Lefties undermining the legitimacy of our institutions have yet to be seen. But it is unlikely to work out well.

But we must realize that the threat is not malicious. All life is like fleas on the back of this universe and it constantly scratching to see who survives and who does not. It isn't personal.

  13. Look on the bright side. If the Democrats take the House it will set off a rally in gun sales that the Trump election sent into a tailspin.

    1. Don't consider that Michael K a particularly sufficient bright side. All the FFL people I know know even though the progs [might, possibly] take the House they ain't gonna be there in enough strength to override a veto.

OT... and it may be fever swamp stuff... If any of you are wondering about this Q anon stuff. Start here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vi6eI--0QLU
Briefly, Q is supposed to be a group of MIL/NSA intelligence (think Rogers) that started posting cryptic messages to the autistic message boards (4chan, now 8chan) 8 months ago. They became concerned about the lawlessness of the previous administration/intelligence agencies. Recently these "drops" have become more explicit. Briefly, Q claims that behind the scenes Trump is cleaning House. Sealed (secret) Indictment have approached 55K (normally 1-3K). White hats are Huber, Sessions,IG Horowitz and many generals and others. Trump and sessions have been playing kabuki theater. Which appeals to me because that interaction always struck me as funny and i think sessions is a solid dog. Anyhow according to Q many corrupt deep state have started to roll over (Lynch is talkin) Sorry so disjointed but am at work so.. PS google FB etc is suppressing key words qanon+sessions, qanon+ fisa etc... So use duckduckgo search engines to look in to this if it interests you. A comparison of search results with same key words will redpill you guys. Whatever is going on (elaborate hoax?) it is interesting and they are trying to shut it down to an incredible extent. Cheers
